African payments company Flutterwave has appointed Morounke Olufemi as its Global Chief Financial Officer, placing the former Access Holdings executive in charge of its global finance operations as the fintech pursues sustainable growth and deeper international expansion.
Olufemi succeeds Mitesh Popat, who is stepping down after two years as Global CFO to pursue a new entrepreneurial venture.
Before the promotion, Olufemi served as Flutterwave’s CFO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, working alongside Popat on the company’s financial strategy.
Former Access Holdings CFO Takes Global Role
Olufemi brings more than 24 years of experience spanning finance, banking and corporate strategy.
Before joining Flutterwave in June 2025, she served as Group Chief Financial Officer at Access Holdings Plc.
During her time at the financial-services group, she participated in major capital and corporate transactions, including a $300 million Additional Tier 1 capital raise in 2023, a rights issuance programme supporting bank recapitalisation in 2024 and merger and acquisition transactions in Nigeria’s pensions industry.
Flutterwave Chief Executive and founder Olugbenga Agboola said the company was entering another phase of sustainable growth and described Olufemi as the financial leader required for that stage.
Profitability Takes Centre Stage
Olufemi said her priorities would include capital discipline, margin growth and sustainable profitability, while strengthening financial services for businesses operating internationally.
She also highlighted multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement as areas of focus.
That is significant as Flutterwave expands beyond conventional payment processing.
The company has been developing infrastructure around stablecoins and digital-asset-powered settlement. Earlier in 2026, Flutterwave disclosed that stablecoin infrastructure was live with selected merchants and being tested within parts of its Send App.
Flutterwave said its strategic priorities and long-term financial goals remain unchanged following the CFO transition.
The leadership change therefore appears to represent continuity rather than a change in overall corporate direction.
For Flutterwave, the task is increasingly about converting its large payments footprint into a sustainable global financial-services business while navigating different regulatory environments across its markets.
Olufemi’s appointment places an executive with both traditional banking and fintech experience at the centre of that process.
