The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has emphasized the need for collective cooperation among stakeholders to enhance and increase the volume of exports from Nigeria. NAFDAC stressed that collaboration is crucial to ensuring that export trade aligns with the quality, quantity, standards, and certification requirements of Nigeria’s trading partners.
During a paper presentation titled “How to Improve Process to Increase Export in Nigeria” at the CHINET 3rd Aviacargo Conference in Lagos, with the theme “Unlocking the Logistics Barrier to Improve Agro Exports Products,” Mrs. Sanwoolu O.A., the Deputy Director of the Export Division at NAFDAC’s Ports Inspection Directorate, highlighted the importance of effective collaboration among all parties involved in the export process.
Mrs. Sanwoolu stated that all exported goods that have undergone NAFDAC’s export certification procedure have been successfully accepted by importing countries. However, she acknowledged that certain factors hinder the smooth export of some products from Nigeria, leading to their rejection by other nations. These factors include non-compliance with standardized clearance procedures by various stakeholders, such as freight forwarders, cargo handlers, airlines/carriers, and regulatory agencies. Additionally, a lack of effective collaboration among sister regulatory agencies has been identified as another obstacle to successful exports.
NAFDAC’s call for collaboration echoes the broader importance of synergy among various entities involved in the export process. By adhering to standardized procedures, ensuring proper handling, and maintaining regulatory compliance, stakeholders can collectively work to enhance the reputation and acceptance of Nigerian products in the global market. This collaborative effort is instrumental in unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s agro export sector and overcoming logistical barriers that might hinder the growth of its exports.
