Telecom operators in Nigeria are facing renewed pressure as the federal government demands improved services, especially after the recent 50 per cent tariff hike.
To address subscribers’ concerns, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched a new regulatory strategy aimed at boosting service quality, enhancing transparency, and rebuilding consumer confidence.
Speaking at a media interactive session in Lagos over the weekend, NCC Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Aminu Maida, declared that the era of “hiding under technical jargons” is over.
According to him, the Commission will replace the traditional enforcement framework with a hybrid model that blends strict regulation with public disclosure of operator performance.
“The era of hiding behind technical jargon and unverified claims is over. We are putting the numbers in the public domain. Nigerians will clearly see which networks are delivering and which are failing,” Maida warned.
He added that the new approach marks “a new era of accountability in Nigeria’s telecom sector,” stressing that consumers deserve transparency, quality, and security in their services.
