OPay has expanded its N1.2 billion scholarship programme by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four additional tertiary institutions across Nigeria, in a move aimed at widening access to education and easing students’ financial burdens.
The newly added institutions include Benue State Polytechnic, Kogi State Polytechnic, Montgomery Polytechnic, and Alex Ekwueme Federal University. The expansion brings the total number of partner institutions under the scheme to 24 nationwide.
According to a statement released on Thursday, the agreements form part of OPay’s 10-year scholarship initiative designed to support academically talented but financially disadvantaged students.
Under the programme, 20 students in each participating institution will receive scholarships valued at ₦300,000 annually, providing critical financial relief and enabling them to focus on their studies.
Speaking during the MoU signing, OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Itoro Udo, said the initiative reflects the company’s long-term commitment to empowering young Nigerians through education.
“Education is one of the most powerful tools for changing a life, and we believe every student deserves a fair shot at it, irrespective of their background,” she said.
Udo noted that the programme specifically targets students with strong academic potential who lack the financial means to pursue their education.
“Through this partnership, OPay is investing in students who have the drive but need the support. We are proud to stand with them and to keep expanding this commitment across more institutions and more communities,” she added.
The expansion underscores OPay’s growing footprint in Nigeria’s education sector, as the company continues to leverage its corporate social responsibility initiatives to promote inclusive access to learning and support human capital development.
