The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has extended the scheduled outage on the Jos-Bauchi-Gombe 330kV Single Circuit transmission line until June 30, 2026.
The company said the extension will enable contractors to complete the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) along the transmission corridor.
According to TCN, the maintenance exercise was initially carried out between April 9 and April 12, 2026, before resuming on May 23.
The latest extension became necessary to allow the completion of OPGW stringing works along the 276-kilometre Jos-Bauchi-Gombe transmission line route.
TCN explained that the outage will continue to be observed from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday during the maintenance period.
As a result, electricity customers served by the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) in Bauchi, Gombe, Damaturu, and Maiduguri will experience reduced power supply during the scheduled maintenance hours.
The company added that Yola, Jalingo, and neighbouring communities will remain without electricity throughout the outage period.
Despite the disruption, TCN assured consumers that power supply would be fully restored at the end of each day’s work schedule.
The transmission company expressed regret over the inconvenience the outage may cause residents and businesses in the affected areas.
It noted that efforts are being intensified to ensure the project is completed within the revised timeline.
According to TCN, the installation of Optical Ground Wire is a critical component of ongoing efforts to modernise the national grid and improve transmission infrastructure.
The company stated that the project will significantly enhance grid monitoring capabilities and improve communication systems across the transmission network.
TCN also said the upgrade will strengthen operational efficiency and boost the overall reliability of electricity transmission nationwide.
Industry experts have consistently highlighted the importance of transmission infrastructure upgrades in reducing system disruptions and improving power delivery across the country.
Upon completion, the Jos-Bauchi-Gombe transmission line upgrade is expected to support more efficient grid operations and contribute to a more stable electricity supply in the affected regions.
