Senate to Begin Consideration of Tax Reform Bills as Akpabio Urges Lawmakers to Tackle National Challenges

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced yesterday during plenary that the red chamber would begin the consideration of the Tax Reform Bills today, nearly a month after they were first introduced by President Bola Tinubu.

Akpabio made this revelation after the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, presented his committee’s report on the fiscal documents. The Senate President urged the committee to ensure that copies of the bills were distributed to all senators to enable them to thoroughly study the documents and make informed contributions during the deliberation.

In addition to discussing the Tax Reform Bills, Akpabio also used the opportunity to address pressing national issues, urging federal lawmakers to renew their commitment to addressing the country’s increasing insecurity and economic hardships. He called for a unified and urgent response to these challenges as Nigerians continue to face rising hunger and insecurity.

Akpabio highlighted several critical areas in need of immediate legislative action, including the rising costs of living, instability in the energy sector, and escalating insecurity, all of which are significantly affecting the lives of citizens across the nation. He emphasized that these issues require immediate attention and strong, coordinated efforts from lawmakers.

“Let us approach our duties with integrity, unity, and urgency. The situation in our country demands nothing less,” Akpabio stated, as he urged senators to prioritize solutions to these challenges in the coming legislative sessions.
