Chowdeck, one of Africa’s leading on-demand delivery platforms, has partnered with MyCoverGenius to provide personal accident insurance for over 20,000 riders on its platform.
The partnership, which began in November 2024, automatically enrols every active Chowdeck rider in a personal accident insurance plan. The coverage includes accidental medical expenses, temporary disability, and other key protections. It offers riders a reliable safety net as they serve more than two million customers across Nigeria.
Since its launch in October 2021, Chowdeck has built a reputation for speed and reliability. The company has also positioned itself as a platform focused on rider empowerment.
The collaboration with MyCoverGenius reinforces its commitment to rider welfare. It also highlights a growing trend in Africa’s gig economy, where digital platforms are beginning to prioritise worker safety and wellbeing.
“Riders are a critical part of everything we do at Chowdeck,” the Head of Operations, Umar Nasir, said. “This partnership with MyCoverGenius is about more than just insurance. It is about setting a new benchmark for how delivery platforms in Africa should protect and support their people. We want every Chowdeck rider to feel secure knowing their wellbeing is just as important as the meals and packages they deliver every day.”
The Chief Executive Officer of MyCoverGenius, Adebowale Banjo, said the partnership aligns with the company’s broader mission.
“Our mission has always been to make insurance accessible, relevant and impactful for everyday Africans,” Banjo said. “By partnering with Chowdeck, we are extending protection to thousands of hard-working riders and demonstrating how digital platforms can integrate insurance in ways that directly improve lives.”
The development comes as Nigeria’s gig economy continues to expand. A recent survey showed that 64 per cent of location-based gig workers said their income from digital platforms makes a meaningful difference to their household finances.
As demand for on-demand delivery services rises, the partnership sets a new standard for integrating insurance and worker protections into Africa’s fast-growing digital economy.
