In a continued drive to promote inclusive economic growth, Fidelity Bank Plc has extended its “Give Her Power” initiative to Ogun State, empowering 100 women with vocational tools aimed at strengthening their financial independence and boosting household income.
The empowerment programme, held at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, featured the distribution of 50 sewing machines and 50 grinding machines to women engaged in microbusinesses across the state. The event attracted market leaders, community stakeholders, and government officials, including the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo.
Speaking at the event, the Regional Bank Head, Southwest 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Folaranmi Jemirin, said the initiative reflects the bank’s practical approach to empowerment through its women-focused proposition, HerFidelity.
“At Fidelity Bank, our approach to empowerment is simple; it must be practical, inclusive, and sustainable. When you empower a woman economically, the benefits extend to her family, her business, and the wider community,” he said.
He noted that the “Give Her Power” programme is part of a broader nationwide rollout that includes distribution of 1,000 sewing and grinding machines, financial literacy training, mentorship programmes, and vocational development initiatives designed to support women-led enterprises.
Jemirin added that beneficiaries should make productive use of the equipment, describing the intervention as a long-term investment in community development and economic resilience.
Commending the initiative, Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo, described the programme as a shift from symbolic celebration to tangible empowerment.
“This initiative goes beyond celebrating International Women’s Day. It delivers real opportunities for transformation,” she said, praising Fidelity Bank for supporting the state government’s efforts under Governor Dapo Abiodun.
She also encouraged beneficiaries to maximize the tools provided, stressing that the long-term success of the programme depends on how effectively they are utilized.
The “Give Her Power” initiative forms part of Fidelity Bank’s broader sustainability and inclusion strategy aimed at enabling individuals to thrive, businesses to grow, and communities to prosper.
