Dr. Julius B. Omodayo-Owotuga has been appointed Executive Director of FirstBank of Nigeria Limited, effective May 13, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening the institution’s leadership in governance, finance, risk management, and corporate transformation.
The appointment was disclosed through the Nigerian Exchange by First HoldCo Plc, the parent company of FirstBank. According to the board, Omodayo-Owotuga’s appointment reinforces the group’s commitment to strong governance, disciplined execution, financial resilience, and sustainable long-term growth across its businesses.
Dr. Omodayo-Owotuga brings more than 24 years of professional experience spanning banking, infrastructure finance, power, oil and gas, auditing, and consulting. He is widely regarded in corporate circles as a turnaround specialist following his contributions at Ardova Plc and Geregu Power Plc.
Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership positions across financial institutions and corporate organisations, gaining expertise in finance, treasury operations, risk management, controls, advisory services, and regulatory engagement.
His academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctorate in Business Administration. He is also an alumnus of Saïd Business School, IE Business School, Geneva Business School, and University of Lagos.
Professionally, he is a CFA Charterholder, a KPMG-trained accountant, and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, and the Institute of Credit Administration. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors Nigeria.
His previous career engagements include roles at Africa Finance Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank, KPMG Professional Services, and MBC International Bank, now known as FirstBank of Nigeria Limited.
At Ardova Plc, he served as Group Executive Director for Finance and Risk Management. He later became Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Geregu Power Plc, where he played a key role in governance, institutional processes, operations, financing activities, and the company’s listing on the Nigerian Exchange.
Before his latest appointment, Dr. Omodayo-Owotuga served as a Non-Executive Director on the board of First HoldCo Plc between 2021 and 2026. His appointment to the board of FirstBank has also received approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Dr. Omodayo-Owotuga joins a board chaired by Ebenezer Olufowose. The bank’s executive management team is led by Olusegun Alebiosu, alongside Deputy Managing Director Ini Ebong.
Other Executive Directors on the board include Shehu Aliyu, Oluseyi Oyefeso, and Biyi Olagbami.
The non-executive directors include Wale Oyedeji, Aderemi Lasaki, Tope Omage, Akinwunmi Akinfemiwa, Remilekun Odunlami, and Anil Dua, while Mairo Usman Mandara serves as Independent Non-Executive Director.
