The Lagos Regional Manager of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Bukola Teriba, has urged women in aviation to leverage government policies to excel in their careers.
Teriba made the call after receiving the “Woman of the Day” award from Women in Aviation International (WAI) during its 2025 awards night in Lagos. She credited President Bola Tinubu’s administration for creating an environment where women increasingly occupy key managerial positions in aviation.
“President Tinubu’s government has given women more leadership opportunities in the aviation sector. Women are taking up leadership positions, and it is something we must encourage,” Teriba said. She encouraged aspiring girls to view the sky not as a limit, but as a runway for possibilities.
The event featured a keynote by former Nigerian Airspace Management Agency Managing Director, Nnamdi Udoh, who stressed the importance of work-life balance for professional women in the high-pressure aviation industry. Udoh described balance as “not a luxury but a necessity” for safety, retention, and long-term industry growth.
WAI Nigeria President Rejoice Ndudinachi highlighted the organisation’s mission to empower women across all areas of aviation, from piloting and engineering to leadership. She called for continued mentorship and preparation of the next generation to lead in the aviation ecosystem.
Teriba concluded with a powerful message: “To every young girl looking at the skies and wondering if there is a place for her, we are the answer. The sky is not our limit, it is our runway.”
