Security personnel of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have foiled an attempted armed robbery attack at the company’s Ogbomoso Transmission Substation.
TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Mbah, preliminary findings showed that the suspected armed men gained unauthorised access into the substation by scaling the facility’s perimeter fence.
She explained that the incident occurred between late Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday near the gate area of the substation.
“The intruders further proceeded to the gate house in an attempt to attack and deactivate the vigilante personnel on duty.
“However, the security team on duty repelled the attackers by firing warning shots, forcing them to retreat and flee through the same route they used to gain entry,” she stated.
Mbah added that the fleeing suspects abandoned some tools and personal belongings near the fence wall during their escape.
She said an inspection conducted in the morning revealed equipment believed to have been used for the attempted attack, as well as traces of blood and footprints leading toward the escape route.
According to her, a more detailed search carried out after daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing additional tools suspected to belong to the intruders.
The TCN spokesperson noted that the incident has been reported to security agencies, while investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible and prevent future occurrences.
She confirmed that no member of staff or security personnel was injured during the incident.
Mbah also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to protecting its facilities and ensuring the safety of critical power infrastructure across the country.
